Interview Sue Sweet

1. Why did you write A Deadly Agent?

This book was a way for me to make a mark in this world. I could always write, had a hard time expressing myself verbally. After hitting the Big "40", I realized if I was going to finish a book, I better get to it! This was my therapy for getting through my mid life crisis.

2. What can you tell us about yourself that will give some insight into why you like to read, as well as write, certain types of books.

I came from a family of seven sisters and brothers. Being the second from the eldest, a lot of chores, baby sitting, cleaning, etc. were my responsibility. When I could grab a minute to myself, it was with a book, and preferably one that made me think, like a mystery would. I am a romantic at heart, so that is why I try to combine the two.

3. Who are your favorite authors in your favorite genre?

I grew up enjoying Lawrence Sanders, Agatha Christie and of course Danielle Steele.

4. If you had to choose another genre other than the one you write in, what would it be and why?

I think Science Fiction, because the author is allowed so much room in a field that covers just about everything. Your imagination can really go wild.

5. Most writers have a strong suit. What is yours? Dialogue? Description? Narrative?

I have been told that I'm very descriptive. I like to envision the scenes when I'm reading, therefore I want my reader to be able to picture my scenes as they are read.

6. How do you see yourself five years from now with regard to your writing career? Still writing in the same genre? Expanding to another?

Probably the same genre, mainly because I love mystery/suspense.

7. I am always intrigued by the various methods used by different authors. What is yours? Do you plot extensively? Or write by the seat of your pants? Do you know your characters well before you begin your story, or do they come to life as you write?

I hate to admit this but, I am a by the seat of the pants writer. I usually have a good insight on how to start the new story, but the book itself is written scene by scene.

The characters come to life as the story unfolds.

8. What is your writing schedule like? Do you do a certain number of pages per day? Write for so many hours each day? Write as the mood strikes you?

The mood has to strike me. A disciplined writer I am not. When I am in the mood however, I can write for days on end without interruption.

9. How long did it take you to write A Deadly Agent?

One year from start to finish. I was in a car accident, which caused me to be out of work for a while. I was able to finish it before I returned to my job.

10. Do you have another work in progress? If so, can you tell us a little bit about it.

Yes I do, several. The one I am concentrating on at the moment is another mystery, set on the Gulf Coast. My main character is a young hometown journalist, who finds herself running away from the very people her paper sent her to do an exclusive on. More to come at a later date.
