Kaelin’s mind raced as photographic clips of the time when she had walked into the room holding the Book of Love and Life sprang in her mind. So much made sense and yet nothing did. She banged the steering wheel and glared at the silent environs of the Home for the Aged. How could she have been so stupid? Gabriel’s reaction, Rosemarie’s fear and her own reaction to Joshua made so much sense. She bit her lip. What to do now? She couldn’t go back and face Joshua. She loved him but their love was doomed. Angels were forbidden to fall in love with humans let alone their Charges. She bit her lip and clenched her hands around the steering wheels till her knuckles turned white. No answers materialized as the sun dipped lower in the sky. Darkness swept in, and threw shadows around much like the demons biting at her heels. She needed to see Pappi. He’d know what to say.
