REVIEWS/QUOTES:
Delusions can be deadly. Sometimes survival depends on the ability to see beyond appearances to reality.
Suzanne Hurley explores this idea in her new romantic mystery, DELUSIONS (Wings e-Press, October, 2008). DELUSIONS is a bittersweet tale of teen angst and tragedy, of a murder-minded drug dealer roaming the halls of a small rural high school, and of benign faces hiding their true natures behind masks.
Once you meet Sam and her friends, you'll be eager to know
what lies ahead for her. Good news! There's a third book in the works.

Chances: I loved this suspense novel
so much I read it twice, back-to-back. Yes, it’s that good! I’ve read Ms
Suzanne M. Hurley before, but this is by far the best book she has
master-minded. The ending will keep you gasping with surprises. Don’t wait for a
rainy day to read this one. Get it today.
Chances:The
high school counselor, Samantha Barclay, is at her best when she
is sleuthing undercover. A student has disappeared. Some say he has run away,
while others insist he has been kidnapped. Sam puts her own life on the line to
find him and keep him safe. Little does she know that even as she and her dog,
Maxine, brave dangers to locate the missing teenager, she herself is being
stalked by an aggressive New York reporter, Mariah Blue. Even as
she works to win trust from others, she herself struggles with the same problem.
Her boyfriend, Deputy Al Michaels, can only shake his head in
wonder as Sam tries to tackle the whole situation… alone.
Chances: For Samantha Barclay,
counselor at Milton High School in the little town of Paxton, West Virginia,
life is never serene. Just when her
relationship with Deputy Al Michaels has reached an exciting new stage and her
father is on the verge of marrying his newfound love, change enters in the form
of an old FBI friend.
When we think we know the answers, Ms. Hurley cleverly
twists the plot in a different direction.
Soon Sam finds herself once again in grave danger, risking not only her
relationship with Al but also her life.
In the meantime, after a series of frustrations and dead ends, Mariah
Blue finds Sam, and we still don’t know her agenda.
This is a book that will keep you guessing right up to the last chapter.
Ms. Hurley is a talented writer who is willing to
experiment with previous success.
She uses the first point of view for Samantha, as in previous books; for Mariah
she switches to third person, a technique that keeps the suspense at a fever
pitch. And this is a true
page-turner. It kept me coming back
to read “just one more chapter” while my other chores went undone.
I was happy to be back in Samantha’s world with her
friends, enjoying her sense of humor, marveling at how she managed to extricate
herself from the direst predicaments and deal realistically with a major,
unanticipated crisis in her own life.
I hear there’s a fourth Samantha book in the works; it
can’t come soon enough for me.
Chances:
At the request of FBI
agent Ryan Leam, school counselor Samantha Barclay goes undercover to try to
find out more about his son’s disappearance. She is welcomed by the faculty at
her new school assignment, but students are wary of her attempts to garner
information about Jason Leam. Meanwhile, New York Times reporter Mariah Blue
takes a surprising ‘vacation’ and heads to West Virginia on a quest to locate
Samantha.
Ms.
Hurley artfully weaves together these two story lines to keep the reader
guessing. In the end, we are surprised by the resolution of each story, when
Samantha and Mariah come face-to-face.
Chances will satisfy the mystery lover, while the deepening
relationship between Samantha and Sheriff’s Deputy Al Michaels will tease
readers of sweet romance.

Review:
But suspecting someone of killing off people, and finding
solid proof doesn’t always come easy. Even when everyone, including her
protective father, nag her to let the law handle it, Sam finds her mind won’t
shut down when she is digging up the truth.
This multi-level suspense is sure to keep you on your toes
with its sudden twist of events, and surprising clues. I highly recommend it.
In Shades of
Envy, Samantha Barclay, Suzanne Hurley’s high school
counselor heroine, is back, bringing with her familiar characters from previous
books who live and work in the charming town of Paxton, West Virginia.
Also on hand is a deeply troubled student, not to mention a corpse, a
group of suspects, and a chilling villain whose identity is the book’s biggest
surprise.
In SHADES OF ENVY Suzanne Hurley demonstrates
again that she has a firm handle on the sources of teen aged angst; on anorexia,
problems with parents, and the current vampire craze that has lured a
frightening number of students into its web.
How Samantha solves the murder mysteries and unmasks the
killer make fascinating reading as do the developments in her relationship with
Sheriff Al Michaels that culminate in one of the book’s surprises.
Ms. Hurley’s characters are the kind the reader is likely to
encounter in every day life. The
suspense is unrelenting, the stakes high, and the plot memorable for its twists
and turns. Best of all, the ending
hints at a new stage in Samantha’s career and new trouble brewing for a future
Samantha book. SHADES OF ENVY
deserves many stars. It’s a
fast-paced, enjoyable mystery read.
Shades of Envy is the latest edition
in the Samantha Barclay Series. Author Suzanne Hurley is right on her game and
her story gets you “Right between the eyes.” Right from the green cover to the
complicated relationship Samantha has with her handsome boyfriend Sheriff Al
Michaels the seeds of envy are planted. Is Al Michaels seeing someone else? Is
his new partner Krissy trying to take her boyfriend away?
It all starts with a former girlfriend of Al Michaels. She is
murdered in a church. Samantha finds the body and begins to follow the clues.
One step ahead of the police, Samantha is always trying to put the pieces
together. Al refers to her as ‘Freud’ for her compulsion to analyze every
situation looking for motives.
Samantha investigates the eating disorder clinic, Gina’s Place. A cast of
interesting characters surrounding the clinic provide plenty of mystery. What
role does the past play in the present murders? And how does this all fit into
the present events?
Author Suzanne Hurley offers a great addition to her Samantha
Barclay series. Envy and jealously rear their ugly head. A must read!!!
Shades of Envy: With her Sheriff boyfriend,
Al, acting strangely, the town's
beautiful new deputy trying to steal her boyfriend and a defiant student who
refuses to let her help, Milton High School counselor, Samantha Barclay, doesn't
know how much more she can take—that is until the murders start.
And once again, Samantha's curious nature pulls her into the middle of
all the mayhem!
Suzanne Hurley's fourth Samantha Barclay novel, Shades of
Envy, is packed with action, mystery, suspense, romance and of course
delicious baked goods!
Hurley's detailed description of the people, places and things
make you feel as if you yourself are Samantha Barclay, trying to solve the
tragic murders of some of Paxton's beautiful, young women.
Plus, you'll find that you can almost taste the home made food from
Connan's, Paxton's only restaurant.
Hurley has an impeccable way of telling a story full of
surprising twists and turns that makes small town Paxton, West Virginia more
exciting than the big city.
Don't miss out on this exciting fourth installment of the
Samantha Barclay series!
Nice Girls Can Win: This is a sweet story of
love and forgiveness, of redemption, and of making lemonade out of the lemons
that life tosses in your path. It has triumphs in unexpected places and a fairy
tale ending wrapped up in shining paper at the end.
A striking feature of Nice Girls Can
Win is Hurley’s heroine, Jessie, whose voice is authentic in every way.
The reader can believe she is a real person, whose world and friends and
struggles are as familiar as her own, allowing the reader to care deeply about
her.
This book is charming, humorous, uplifting, and, at times,
heartbreaking. Just like life. Nice Girls Can Win
takes a well-deserved place alongside the author’s previous best selling
Shades of Envy. Don’t miss this one.
Nice Girls CAN Win is a delightful, feel-good
novel that celebrates female friendships, love, and the power of forgiveness.
You'll enjoy it from beginning to end!
Nice Girls Can Win: Suzanne Hurley steps aside from her
usual Samantha Barcley Mystery Series, to produce this poignant
dysfunctional family saga. Jessie White struggles with
tough-reality when her insufferable boss fires her from her lawyer’s position;
her conniving boyfriend dumps her; and to top it all off, she is evicted from
her cozy apartment…all on the same day. You can’t help but root for Jessie as
she struggles to get back on track. I found this a touching read as Jessie works
at finding herself and mending her broken relationships.
